carpooling Thanks to my boss, I am now taking the NR to and from work. Her car was repossessed this morning, two days before it was scheduled to, so she was very late to work today. She called to let me know she was unable to find a ride and that she had to walk to the convenience store to get money to take the bus. She asked if she still had a job, and I told her yes. Then she got on the wrong bus, and when she called again, she was in tears. A friend of hers was going to pick her up and give her a ride, and I told her not to worry about it..to get here when she gets here. She lives in the "ghetto" (although in a very nice apt) and there are a lot of hookers who walk the street she lives off of, and people kept stopping and asking if she needed a ride, or honking and yelling things at her. Poor girl. It was like, what could go wrong next? When my boss called to check in, he told her that I didn't live far from her and mentioned that I might be able to give her a ride to and from work. And it had occurred to me to offer, but I decided I didn't want that responsibility. Besides, she is notorious for being late..I didn't want to take that on. And I guess I should have, since a coworker of mine from my days at Hallmark used to pick me up and several used to take me home so my parents didn't have to. I should have paid it forward. But I just didn't want to. But after she found that out, she emailed me, asking if I would mind picking her up. And what could I say then? So I told her I'd be there at 7:35. *sigh* I'll wait for her for 5 minutes, and if she isn't down, then I'm gone. I could wring my boss' neck. *grr* Artboy and I had a discussion last night when he got home, and he was very sweet about it. He hadn't realized that he was taking more than his share, and he seemed to have a lot of suggestions--one of which was to buy yet another bookcase. Where that is going to go, I'm not sure. He doesn't seem to want to put any of his books in storage, so I guess I'm just going to have to move mine from my folks house to storage. But the conversation went well and we'll work on it. |
