vacation 1 Vacation had its moments. I was disappointed because my expectations were different than what actually occurred, but it has some good times. We left last Wednesday after I got off work. I was going to try to leave early, but of course Murphy got in the way and nixed that idea. Before I left, I had to get the billing completed, and I thought it would be a matter of logging into the server and printing the invoices, as I'd finished all the work the night before. But nope. The program decided to crap out on me and would not work. I put in a work order, and then knowing that it would take them forever to get to it, I called our tech guy. No answer, so I had to leave a voice mail. I waited about 40 minutes, and then called another number I had. No answer. So then I called the woman who trained me, and she answered. Yay! I apologized for bothering her, but told her that I was leaving on vacation that night and needed to get the billing completed before I left, and I couldn't reach the head tech guy. The wonderful lady she is told me it was no problem and that she'd get to work on it right then. I thanked her and then waited. 40 minutes later, the issue was solved and I was able to print my invoices. The phones were crazy and I had a lot of insurance reimbursements I had to add to the invoices, so they took forever. And I finished about a half hour before quitting time. I asked my boss if I could go early, and he agreed, but then spent 15 min talking to me about our plans, so I only left 15 minutes early. Got home, grabbed my stuff, and Artboy wasn't yet ready to go. Grr. I'd spoken to him earlier--he knew I was trying to get out early..but he wasn't even ready when I would have gotten home--he was too busy watching Star Wars, Episode 3. Finally, he had all of his stuff together, but he wanted to finish the movie, and that pissed me off. I mean, he knew when we were leaving. It was Tivo'd. And he's seen it before. I told him I was going to go down the street and get some drinks and snacks for the drive, and then he got pissed at me because I was angry and wasn't going to wait. So our trip got off to a poor start. He angrily stopped the movie, and we left for the gas station. While he was pumping, I went inside and got some water, soda, and a couple snacks. When I came out, he went into the store for the receipt and came out with some more water. He started to put it in his cup holder when he saw that I'd gotten him his favorite Fiji water. That softened him a bit and he gave me a kiss, thanking me for my thoughtfulness. And with that, we got on the road. We spent the drive, trading turns at listening to our CD's (since our music tastes are pretty different). If I have to listen to another Led Zeplin CD withint the next month, it will be too soon. I'm Led Zeplined out. Our first stop was Flagstaff, and we decided to eat dinner at Beaver Street Brewing Co. I decided to eat something different (I should know better than to stray from the Beaver Street Burger--it's the only main entree on the menu that is good...and it is absolutely amazing!) and was disappointed with the salmon quesadilla. It was really fishy. And the Pesto Cream Cheese dip that we always get wasn't as good as usual. But the raspberry beer was amazing, as usual. Really, that beer and the pesto dip are the only reason I kept going there until I found the burger. This beer is unlike any other raspberry beer that I've tried. All the other ones are disgusting--too strong of a raspberry taste and too sweet. But this one just has a tiny bit of raspberry flavoring that isn't overpowering at all..nor is it sweet. In my opinion, beer should not be sweet. Ick. From Flagstaff, we headed towards Albuquerque. Couldn't see much of the countryside, as it was pitch black. But the conversation was enjoyable. We could see storms in the distance and the lightning show was beautiful. But just outside of Albuquerque at about 1am, we became a part of the lightning show and it wasn't so cool anymore. It was pouring rain and the lightning was right over head. We both screamed at one point when a bolt appeared to be very close to us. We had to drive super slow because we couldn't see out the windshield, and we were so nervous. And then suddenly it was all over with, and we were in Albuquerque. We found a hotel at the first exist, and collapsed into bed. (to be continued) |
